Dear Supporters Of The Summa Children's Foundation:The challenging economic and business climate has impacted every facet of our lives. It has also magnified the importance of the Summa Children's Foundation's efforts. Just 13 months ago, we were fortunate to raise in excess of $1 million for a select group of Southern California based organizations dedicated to improving the lives of our youth. "A Night of Inspiration," honoring Pete Carroll and his organization, A Better LA was a resounding success and brought much-needed funds and visibility to a number of deserving non-profit organizations. By bringing mission-critical funding to organizations that have demonstrated an ability to build scale through their programs in the health, social and educational arenas, we support groups who directly assist our community's children. This way, we are able to impact our community's at-risk youth in ways not always measured by dollars and cents. We are an organization without fixed costs and a 100% volunteer team of board members, staff and outside support organizations. Our ability to screen, review and select deserving non-profits with efficient business models ensures a high return on our targeted funds. In essence, we become a conduit for donors looking for world-class non-profits with proven track records for making a difference. Our Foundation was founded in 2005 with a dream of creating a mechanism whereby charitably inclined people could rely on the ongoing due diligence effort of The Summa Children's Foundation in order to allocate resources to deserving non-profits serving at-risk youth in Southern California. With over $1.5 million raised since our inception, we have exceeded our expectations. We are dedicated to igniting the philanthropic interests of future generations. Therefore, we do not limit our measurement of effectiveness to dollars raised. We also measure success by the many ways we help "off the radar screen" non-profits gain visibility and credibility amongst their donor base. Many of the organizations we have funded benefit by being exposed to our donor base and the myriad contacts we have in the community. We hope the re-launch of our newly developed website will provide you with insights about our benefiting organizations. We will also introduce you to a few of the children who have been positively impacted as a result of our foundation's efforts. As you click through the many organizations and children we serve, we think you will feel good about the financial and moral support you have unselfishly provided to our foundation. We hope to bring a sense of connection to the organizations and children through real stories about extraordinary challenges, perseverance and triumph. These are the stories that keep us focused and passionate about the work we do. All of our current board members are 2nd and 3rd generation Angelinos so we feel very strongly about our connection to Los Angeles and our surrounding communities. Our task can seem daunting as the health, social and educational challenges facing our youth are all too plentiful. Therefore, we believe our efforts will inspire everyone who crosses our path to give more of their time and financial resources to those who need it most. Our fundraising efforts continue in 2009 with greater purpose than ever before. We look forward to sharing with you how you and your loved ones can become a part of The Summa Children's Foundation. We are excited to help build our next generation of philanthropists through example and membership into an entrepreneurial organization with an old soul. Stay tuned for more ways you can help as we continue to improve the lives of at-risk youth in our community. We are thankful for your ongoing support of our vision. |
